🧘🧠✨ TODAY’S LESSON: Wait, We Can “Manifest” Our Dream Life through Fun Instead of Struggle????: A Down-To-Earth Lesson on the Law of Least Effort

Lil’ Disclaimer Before We Jump In:

I know (in theory) we’re talking about some super positive stuff here — i.e. creating a life through ease, joy and fun. But based on the challenges you’re experiencing in this moment or the challenges you’ve experienced in the past, this post can bring up the feeeeels. (I know these sort of concepts did for me as well when I was in the thick of it.)

I want to be clear on this: it’s important to recognize that you may have experienced systems of oppression, injustice, marginalization, and abuse that are out of your control. Or even with other forms of difficult life experiences — you didn’t do anything “wrong” to attract these things nor is this your “fault”. The ultimate goal of this personal perspective and exploration of The Law of Least Effort is to empower you and to open your mind to the possibility of creating a greater level of satisfaction and wellbeing for yourself. But any journey we decide to go on in this space is a process.

I will also call out that the services I provide strictly focuses on meditation coaching, I am not a psychiatrist or healthcare professional — nor should anything you read here be seen as substitute for your team of professionals. Ultimately, the best care will come from 1:1 evaluation and possibly through a range of professionals, tools and options. (We love that around here!!) I, personally, really value and honor all of the professions that can support our ultimate wellbeing as well as value and honor my clients exploration of these tools to find what works best for them!

Final final note, which I touch on below: Approach any information in this space with your own discernment! I like to say take what resonates and leave what doesn’t! Okay love you lots, let’s get into it!

Okay lovies — for this one we’re gonna get slightly spiritual, but as I LOVE to do I’m gonna bring it down-to-earth for you.

Mostly because this is a topic I’ve always found fascinating (and slightly confusing, actually unbelievable) before I started meditating and one that I now (thanks to meditation) I get to miraculously experience in my very real life.

And that is: The Law of Least Effort, which in a simple down-to-earth definition by Dom states: the key to your ultimate sense of fulfillment and abundance (financially, relationship-wise, life-wise) is actually meant to be easy, fun and multiply your energy rather than deplete it.

And in a deeper, spiritual, definition by the fab king Deepak Chopra states:

“The fourth spiritual law of success, the Law of Least Effort, is based on the fact that nature’s intelligence functions with effortless ease, with carefreeness, harmony, and love. This is the principle of “Do less, and accomplish more.” When we learn this lesson from nature, we easily fulfill our desires.

Least effort is expended when our actions are motivated by love, because nature is held together by the energy of love. When we seek power and control over other people, we spend energy in a wasteful way. When we seek money for personal gain only, we cut off the flow of energy to ourselves, and interfere with the expression of nature’s intelligence. We waste our energy chasing the illusion of happiness, instead of enjoying happiness in the moment. Attention to the whims of the ego consumes the greatest amount of energy. But when our internal reference point is our spirit, our actions are motivated by love, and there is no waste of energy. Our energy multiplies, and the surplus energy we gather can be channeled to create anything we want, including unlimited wealth. When we harness the power of harmony and love, we use our energy creatively for the experience of affluence and evolution.”

I know, WILD.

If I wasn’t experiencing it in my own life after a lifetime of high-stress, high-anxiety struggle, I’d say you’re full of it. Something like: “Bullshit — I don’t believe you! Go away and let me do things the hard way, that’s the only way to do them!”

(Which honestly, side note: pop off if you’ve done that! Approach any information in this more spiritual space with discernment and following your gut, but don’t let it close off your mind. I know that’s been my rule of thumb for my journey and it led me away from some but also to the people, experiences and lessons that felt like a fit for me - which is what we kinda get into today!)

Back to it - Lucky for you, I hate to see my loved ones unnecessarily struggle.

And also lucky for you, because I struggled for so many years, I can now (at least) try to explain it in human terms and give ya a mini (but actually pretty in-depth) lesson from how I’ve experienced and understood it in my own life.

So let’s begin.

I’ll start this lesson by asking you the question I ask most of my clients at the start of our sessions: If you could create your ideal future, 6-12 months from now, what would that look like?

I know, based on where you're at in life that sentiment can sound corny. Like a cliche fortune cookie you’d read or a slightly cheesy inspirational quote your mom would send you during a tough time - (love ya moms!).

But if you’re in that boat right now: bear with me, keep an open mind, have some fun with it and before you jump into reading, I want you to pause and really reflect on that.

If the above question doesn’t tickle your fancy, think about or even jot down some bullet points on the below:

  • What’s the last really big desire you’ve had for yourself or have for yourself now?

  • What do you think would be really really REALLY cool to experience in this one life you got?

Did ya do it?

Did ya?

Promise?

Pinky promise?

Okay, okay!! I believe you. (Hehe)

Now that you have that vision or desire in mind, I want you to imagine I said to you “okay, let’s start on creating that ASAP” and notice if anything popped in to immediately contradict that exciting idea.

Maybe it sounded something like:

  • Oh yeah that would be nice, but………

  • Or I don’t have enough time to actually do that.

  • Or I don’t have the connections / resources / money to do that.

  • Or “it’s too hard, i don’t know where to start”.

  • Or I’ve tried before but work / life / responsibilities always get in the way.

  • Or I’ll do that once _______________. (Fill in the blank: life slows down, I find the right job, I find the perfect person without a single flaw that triggers me, etc.)

Or maybe, like some of the clients that come to me, it can feel too hard to even answer that question. Almost like your brain won’t let you dream it up or get clear on it, shooting it down with a big “IDK!!!!”.

This, my love, is what we in this space call: resistance

And maybe for you, resistance’s drama and “effort-ing” doesn’t come up when you’re just lightly daydreaming ‘bout your desires and visions.

Maybe for you the drama and “effort-ing” begins when you actually start bringing that vision down-to-earth and executing on it.

When it goes from lovely, lofty idea procrastinated for “some day” so we can keep playing with the (hehe, fun!) potential of it in our minds.

TO:

Actually acting upon it and having to deal with not only the perceived physical limitations (not enough time, resources, money, connections, talent, “good clients” etc.) but also the mental / emotional limitations (fear of f*cking it up, not being good enough, it being too hard or any of the hundred storylines) our heads will try to convince us of along the way.

What I have observed not only in myself, but also in my clients is that: the moment we deeply reflect on what we really really want and get ourselves crystal clear on it - is simultaneously when all of the conflicting beliefs, behaviors and habits we hold about that vision get triggered out of our subconscious and rise to the surface of our awareness.

Or in other words:

When we get clear on our big vision, immediately what is not in-line with that (either in our lives or minds) will also become clear in our awareness.

Which is why:

  • The moment you admit to wanting work / life balance - you’ll start to notice your own self-sacrificial tendencies that your colleagues have gotten accustomed to and reinforce through their expectations of you.

  • The moment you get clear on what you want from dating - is the moment you realize your fear of being alone or speaking up for your needs has left you settling for the bare minimum with your current situationship(s).

  • The moment you realize you want to pursue an entrepreneurial venture - is the moment your current workload, financial limitations and perceived distance from that dream come to the surface.

Which in theory, is amazing. We can’t find solutions for anything until we’re aware of it.

But like I’ve mentioned before, our brains are not wired for change.

Metaphorical “grooves” are literally created based on the road most traveled in our life. (Road, being: the perceptions, beliefs, emotions and behavioral patterns that create our current “reality”).

The fear and resistance that comes up is not fact‼️, but rather the mind’s attempt to fulfill its role (efficiency in executing the things we’ve learned are necessary for “survival” and comfort) and avoid the tension (emotional and cognitive dissonance) of shifting into something new and more expansive. (And usually something we think would be really really cool to experience!)

Now, I’m not saying that we can create everything at once. Nor am I saying, that those “yeah, but’s……” don’t have any validity to them.

What I am saying is that: when you align yourself (mind, body, speech) with the belief that the vision in your heart was placed their for a reason vs. aligning yourself (mind, body, speech) with the “yeah, but’s……..” of resistance - you align yourself to solutions instead of obstacles.

OKAY, DOMenough rambling about resistance! Let’s get into breaking down the down-to-earth approach to Law of Least Effort everyone has been waiting for!

So, whenever you’re working with that beautiful vision in your heart there’s a few components at play:

1 / Ego:

Which Deepak mentions above and has a range of definitions across spirituality, psychology and neuroscience.

And man, Ego gets a bad rep. Their PR team is slacking, honey.

Because contrary to popular belief, Ego isn’t inherently “bad” or “good” - it’s just a hard drive that stores all of our life’s experiences, automates them into our subconscious and creates our personal definition of “reality” out of it.

I like to look at it as our brain’s neutral knack for creating neural-pathways based on what we’ve needed to auto-piloted as a way to assimilate into, be accepted by and survive in our immediate environment.

(Everything from tying your shoe to the full-blown-fear-response that might kick in when you even think about “being judged” by creating + posting content for your business.)

Again, the brain takes this information in neutrally. Almost like it’s data collecting all of our life experiences.

X, Y, Z = love or “good”. X,Y, Z = pain or “bad”.

To increase safety, survival and love = do this. To avoid danger, death and pain = do this.

These rules are stored in our subconscious. We create an entire life of chasing pleasure, and trying to avoid pain.

Until, of course, something unexpected or uncontrollable triggers us. Which causes us to go back to that “programming” and get so focused on the triggering event, emotions, need to get away for perceived safety - that we don’t really take in any new information on why we perceive that as a threat to our survival in the first place.

(I mean, I do get it, having a crush really do be kicking in that fight-or-flight survival instincts sometimes.)

Because of this, we continue to do most often what we’ve always done, even if that includes:

  • Stressing out

  • Bad Habits

  • Self-Sabotaging Beliefs & Behaviors

  • Burning ourselves out

  • Not making time for joy

  • Shooting down any potential solution to your problem

  • Not believing we’re deserving and worthy of the things we want

  • Not believing that a better life for us is possible

For the purpose of this post, let’s define Ego as: this neutral neural network and programming. Not inherently good or bad, just the perceptions, beliefs and behaviors our brain has been trained to automate, based on what we’ve unconsciously picked up as a result of trying to assimilate to, be accepted in and survive in our environment.

And most of us spend our entire freaking life functioning from Ego, because most of us haven’t been taught any different.

But there’s something else really special functioning in our lives, whether we choose to consciously work with it or not.

And it’s the really, really cool thang we start to uncover and experience the power of when we deepen our meditation practice…

2 / Our Inner Wisdom:

Ta, da! Welcome to your Inner Wisdom.

There’s so many words for Inner Wisdom. Deepak above defines it as “spirit”. Others have called it: Your Magnetic Self, Highest Self, Source, The Universe, Soul, Inner Guide, Spiritual Insight, God, Inner Being, Infinite Intelligence, etc.

If you’re more practical: you can also think about it as a type of ultimate (loving) self-awareness. The type of self-awareness that helps you uncover everything you truly need + desire out of life, can meet your “flaws” or places to work on non-judgementally, is absolutely obsessed with all the gifts & talents you bring into the world and will find every possible solution for you to live in your authenticity + power fully.

The word doesn’t really matter, because it’s just a way to define and communicate to others an internal experience. And people will use the best word they have access to in order to communicate their experience.

(So just pick the word that resonates most with you & let go of any weird feels that pop up because it’s not gonna be something you full-body experience by nitpicking the “best” word, why your word is better than others’ words or analyzing it mentally. Not that you’re doing that, but you know, historically people do.)

For the purpose of this post, let’s define it as: the ability to connect directly with your Authentic Self and full-chest trust your intuition and inner guidance. It's also the present-moment source of insight, guidance, or a "gut feeling" that has to do specifically with your authentic desires, needs, strengths, talent and potential.

And with that, now back to…

3 / Resistance:

Which because we love a definition, we’ll generally define as: The cognitive or emotional dissonance that occurs when your Inner Wisdom and Ego have conflicting opinions based on what you’re placing in your awareness.

For our purposes, the thing in your awareness is: your vision and potential.

Meaning, if in response to your vision:

  • Your Ego says: I’m doomed to be single forever and your Inner Wisdom knows: no you’re not silly! - you’ll feel that internal conflict.

  • Your Ego says: I have to stay and suck it up because there’s nothing better out there for me and your Inner Wisdom knows: if you let go something better will come in - you’ll feel that internal conflict.

  • Your Ego says: I’m not good enough to do this and your Inner Wisdom knows: you’re a star bby! - you’ll feel that internal conflict.

An important thing to note here is that according to The Law of Least Effort, your Inner Wisdom is guiding the story of your life through: The Path of Least Resistance.

Meaning that, if your Ego doesn’t yet have the tools to maintain your vision or cannot genuinely comprehend you having it - it’ll guide you to the “next level” up - so you and your mind can assimilate, feel safe and grow into your vision from that experience.

So for example:

  • If you dream of a healthy partnership, but haven’t yet understood what your needs are or don’t have the communication skills to share it - you’ll find someone that helps you “train” that.

  • If you dream of being a successful entrepreneur in a space you're passionate about, but don’t have the finances, connections or business expertise to execute on that yet - you’ll find a role(s) that helps you “train” those skills.

  • If you want to put yourself out there in a big way, but have a crippling fear of being criticized - you’ll be led to situations and people that “train” you fully owning your voice and power.

A lot of the habits that create our life experience are pretty deep down there in our subconscious.

Our Inner Wisdom knows our authentic desires and true potential, our Ego has created a level of limitation (from the way we have learned to perceive and interact with our “reality”) up until this point.

That’s ok! The Path of Least Resistance is about finding balance between the two - choosing to stretch yourself out of the comfort zone, without totally rocking your nervous system.

(Unless, in some cases, life already knows you’re ready for it and throws you out of the metaphorical bird’s nest through unexpected experiences which lead you to finding the solution of least resistance even as your nervous system is slightly rocked. Been there, ask me the story sometime.)

And to bring these all together, we begin to exercise our…

4 / Personal Power

The (conscious or unconscious) process of rewiring your Ego’s programming to be in alignment with your Inner Wisdom through the brain’s neuroplasticity (which, again is the brains life-long capacity to rewire itself due to learning and experience).

I say conscious or unconscious, because this process is happening whenever we go to create something new and expansive in our life - whether we like it or not.

When we don’t work with it consciously, everything becomes a battle between Ego (perception of self and reality stemming from the past) vs. Inner Wisdom (present-moment insight guiding you to the full potential of your Authentic Self).

This is what causes the perceived drama, “effort-ing” and not to mention, zaps your mental energy because your mind becomes a battlefield of conflicting thoughts.

And it’s totally up to us if we want to go that route, it’ll just slow down our process, cause a lot of drama and make us feel like we’re not the authority in our life. It’ll feel like other people, experiences or obstacles are getting in the way of creating what we truly want for ourselves.

But from this perspective — those people, experiences and obstacles are just highlighting the subconscious patterns we’ve gotten used to living through. Subconscious patterns that make us (unconsciously) give our own power away as a way to be loved, accepted and therefore, survive in our immediate environment.

Which said in a different way — means we’re choosing the things we perceive will make us lovable even if we don’t love them ourselves (Ego), instead of choosing things we authentically love (Inner Wisdom), which will end up attracting the opportunities and people who love YOU for the things you authentically love!

When we do work with this wisdom consciously, we can begin to rewire our neural pathways to trust our Inner Wisdom and this process of expanding our most authentically aligned life fully.

And overtime and repetition, (again due to the brain’s ability to rewire itself with learning & experience) we learn to trust and live through our Inner Wisdom > Ego.

That’s when we really get to start vibing with The Law of Least Effort

Concluding Notes on the Law of Least Effort:

The Law of Least Effort starts to work in our life when we learn to trust and love ourselves (Inner Wisdom) over what we’ve learned to believe about ourselves (Ego).

I’ll say honestly from my own experience, this journey doesn’t come without its challenges. It takes a bit of time to uncover that (loving) self-awareness and create the habit of trusting it, while sifting through the perceptions, beliefs, emotions and patterns that are coming up from our past.

There’s also no “end point” to our journey. We as humans are constantly shifting and changing, as is life or our external circumstances. So “newness”, either in the form of awareness or experiences, will always be coming in that ask us to re-examine ourselves as a way to refine our understanding of ourselves, authentic desires and needs.

But what I will say (from my experience as well as other practitioners experiences that I’ve spoken to about this wild phenomena), is that it becomes easier & easier over time.

The challenges or our own thoughts don’t rock us as much. The rebound rate towards what we really want and loving mindset gets quicker. And we begin to see the obstacles as opportunities to expand versus dead-ends — which make them a lovely gift in their own lil’ way when we meet them.

And genuinely, it makes the unfolding of ourselves and our lives such a beautiful process to behold.

So you say you want a down-to-earth example on this:

Amazing because I hate to leave you without info that you can apply to your very-real life.

This was actually a question that came up in the last Muses Program I held, where a client asked: “Well how can you follow the Law of Least Effort when creating something expansive? Expanding takes effort and work. If I wanted to quit smoking, the Path of Least Resistance would be to keep smoking, no?”

FANTASTIC question.

The most important thing to acknowledge in this question is the Intention: “I want to quit smoking”.

Remember what I said about The Path of Least Resistance: our Inner Wisdom will guide us to a personal pattern, person or situation based on where we’re at until we get what we need from that experience and realize: it’s no longer serving us.

When this happens, what we most classically do is fight this process. We’ll stay in a job we hate growing resentment everyday. We’ll try to shape-shift to become “the perfect person” for our partner instead of speaking up for our needs even if it means losing ourselves in the process. We’ll continue on a cycle of completely burning ourselves out and having to rebuild ourselves as a way to avoid setting boundaries or asking others for what we need.

So intention is important. They say Inner Wisdom comes like a whisper until it hits you over the head like a brick.

Meditating helps you understand what’s happening faster, but eventually (fortunately and unfortunately) your Inner Wisdom will become so loud (and create so much perceived “chaos” in your life that’s really just stemming from the internal conflicting beliefs / emotions of your Ego) until you can’t ignore it.

Let’s bring back the process that creates our neural-pathways in the first place (cue, routine, reward - dove into it fully: HERE) and theoretically contextualize it for this question.

  • Cue (Inner Wisdom): A authentic desire stems from internal stimulus (a feeling) or external stimulus (a scenario).

  • Routine (Ego): A set of actions that have been programmed into your subconscious over time as a way to satisfy the “cue”.

  • Reward: The internal (feeling) or external (scenario) feedback to the cue, that has the power to reinforce the habit-loop if it satisfies the cue (over time and repetition).

  • Resistance: The initial cognitive and emotional discomfort of choosing the intentional behavior (Inner Wisdom) over what’s been habituated over time (Ego).

So with smoking, imagine this habit:

FORMING AS:

BEING REPLACED BY:

INTENTION

(Unconsciously): Finding the quickest, most available way to satisfy the cue.

(Consciously): I want to quit smoking.

CUE (INNER WISDOM)

(Internal Stimulus - Feeling): I’m stressed and want to decompress.

(Internal Stimulus - Feeling): I’m stressed and want to decompress.

ROUTINE (EGO)

(Intention: I want the quickest, most available way to satisfy the cue) Grabbing a cigarette and smoking.

(Intention: I want to quit smoking, so I) Go for a run or meditate to decompress.

REWARD

The cue feeling stressed is satisfied, reinforcing the behavior over time + repetition.

The cue feeling stressed is satisfied, reinforcing the behavior over time + repetition.

RESISTANCE

None at the moment, due to the intention until “I want to quit smoking” arises.

The initial cognitive, physical and emotional discomfort of choosing the intentional behavior over what’s been habituated over time.

However, because of neuroplasticity, over time + repetition mediating + going for a run to decompress will become the Path of Least Resistance to the Cue of stress + decompress.

So, again, yes — there is initial resistance to the Law of Least Effort. It comes from the unconscious ways our mind has created habits up until this point.

However, once we become aware these unconscious patterns, we can consciously choose better solutions with benefits that lead us to multiplying the power of our efforts.

For example: scrolling on social media can also be a replacement routine to stress release, but ultimately leads back to creating more stress in the long run. While mediating and going for a run has a compound effect to stress, which allows us to reap more massive rewards from our initial effort.

And so finally, greater macro level, imagine this is what we’re doing with The Law of Least Effort.

Now “limiting beliefs” or resistance to your vision comes in all shapes and sizes, and is unique to the way your mind has formed as a result of your life experiences. Which just means this process of self-discovery and alignment to your Inner Wisdom is a journey that gets deeper the more you practice.

In order to sum up a general example, let’s look at it this way:

  • The Path of Effort belief: Life is meant to be difficult and creating a life of abundance is meant to be hard work.

  • The Law of Least Effort belief: I want to create a life of ease and alignment with my authenticity + joy.

FORMING AS:

BEING REPLACED BY:

INTENTION

(Unconsciously, as a way to assimilate, be accepted & loved in your environment ) Life is meant to be difficult and creating a life of abundance is meant to be hard work.

(Consciously) I want to create a life of ease and alignment with my authenticity + joy.

CUE (INNER WISDOM)

(Internal Stimulus - Feeling): I’m feeling called to my “next level” or something more.

OR:

(External Stimulus - Situation): My current situation is no longer serving me.

(Internal Stimulus - Feeling): I’m feeling called to my “next level” or something more.

OR:

(External Stimulus - Situation): My current situation is no longer serving me.

ROUTINE (EGO)

“Limiting Beliefs” pop in and impact behavior based on the situation.

Either you: avoid the cue & stay in the situation because you perceive the “next level” will be too hard to achieve.

Or: You align your behaviors with that belief, doing really hard things for abundance.

(Intention: The Path of Least Resistance) Start to look for and take action on solutions that will bring me ease and are aligned with my authenticity + joy.

REWARD

The cue of reaching the “next level” is satisfied through difficulty and hard work, reinforcing the behavior over time + repetition.

The cue of reaching the “next level” is satisfied through more aligned solutions, reinforcing the behavior over time + repetition.

RESISTANCE

While difficulty from this scenario stems from the belief / intention, there isn’t much resistance to the actual process. Most of us assimilate and live in this reality for our entire lives.

Think about it: How many times have you “achieved” your “next level” through difficulty and hard work? How many people much older than you (parents, bosses, etc.) do the same thing?

The cue is satisfied in this case, but it also reinforces the routine of “doing difficult & hard things” the next time you want to “reach the next level”.

Until, you read this post and want to science project with something different (hehe)…

The initial cognitive, physical and emotional discomfort of choosing the intentional behavior over what’s been habituated over time. And honestly, this is mostly the disbelief that everything is working in our favor.

But due to neuroplasticity, over time our mind will not only learn to choose the easy + authentically aligned solution - but also trust the process behind it due to learning & experience.

Look at your life and think about any past “manifestation” you’ve brought to fruition, goal you’ve reached or success you’ve created for yourself.

What was causing the drama + “effort-ing” in the process? Was it truly the physical action required to get there or was it the fears and resistance in your mind that impacted your perceptions, behaviors and emotions?

To say this in one final way, before we close out this literal dissertation:

  • Is the physical action: of sending an email and walking to the conference room to resign from an unsatisfying job hard OR is it the guilt, fear of the future or confusion of the mind that makes it hard?

  • Is the physical action: of picking up your phone and typing a text to your crush hard OR is it the fear of rejection, worries about whether they will / won’t answer, insecurities of the mind that make it hard?

  • Is the physical action: of speaking to raise your rates or ask for a salary increase hard OR is it the feelings of unworthiness, fear of disappointment or fear of not finding a better role of the mind that makes it hard?

In most cases, the physical action is not hard. It’s the mental / emotional discomfort that makes it hard.

And while our fears may try to convince us creating a life out of doing things we love is selfish, in reality like Deepak said, these actions can just as easily be motivated by love. When we take ourselves out of just the “Self”-Oriented perception of our reality (aka Ego), we start to see this opportunity for harmony and love on a greater scale:

  • How leaving an unsatisfying job, opens the opportunity for someone excited for and more dedicated to the role to take its place.

  • How texting your crush, opens the opportunity for them to feel admired and cared for.

  • How raising your rates or asking for a salary increase (when done through love + not overconsumption) will only lead to opportunities where you feel less burnt out by making ends meet and more valued - allowing you to share better work, ensure friends + family are cared for, invest in the things your passionate about and have more space to share your gifts freely and with joy. (To just name a few, because I know this is a loaded topic.)

Alright, I’ve left you a lot to think about. Hopefully you’re leaving feeling like the next expansive vision in your journey is totally possible (even if it’s feelin’ scary right now)!

More tips on how to incorporate this into your meditation practice below my loves!

🧘✏️ WORK IT: TIPS FOR YOUR PRACTICE

This (obviously) runs deep and is what I’ll be covering in more depth in THE MUSES PROGRAM for my female visionaries. But if you’d like to implement this into your meditation practice, here’s what you can do:

(NOT SURPRISINGLY) COMMIT TO & GROW A SINGLE-POINTED PRACTICE: There’s this proverb that says, “Tension is who you think you should be. Relaxation is who you are.” And you can use single-pointed practices like: Vipassana and Mindfulness Meditation in order to increase self-awareness and release the resistance of the mind — body so you can make more supportive, intentional choices from that calm state. Within the Tibetan Buddhist lineage there are different visualizations and frameworks of meditation that guide you to your Inner Guidance and help you release the limitation of the Ego in a more direct way. That’s what we’ll be covering more deeply in The Muses Program that unfortunately would be too difficult to fully explain here — but if you’re unable to join and curious about these, a potential solution (😉) would be to find a studio you love near you!

SET AN INTENTION: For an intentional shift or change you’d like to see in your life and work with it throughout the entire month. This can be something internal like: I’d like to show up with more joy. Or something external: Like I’d like to create more intentional space for joy. Use the habit-loop example above to get clear on the unsupportive routines you have to let go of and intentional routines you want to start doing to help with that new intention.

JOURNAL ON THE BELOW: Once you get clear on your intention, use the below journaling exercise —

  • In one column, list out the immediate “resistance” in the form of storylines, beliefs or physical limitations popping up.

  • In the second column, for each limitation, write down a more supportive affirmation for yourself. “More supportive” doesn’t mean forcing yourself to think overly-positive to the point where your Ego doesn’t believe it — just something that feels real, and more aligned with your Intention. Then put this somewhere you can see + reflect on throughout the month.

  • Either as a weekly habit or as you face resistance throughout the month, reflect on:

    • What’s challenging that intention (physical or internal)?

    • Then separate the action you’re doing from the emotion / storyline that’s occurring.
