💭 ☀️ 😎 MEDITATIVE MUSING: You Are the Spark⚡️: Surrendering into Genuine Self-Worth.

Hello my loves!

For those who don’t follow astrology, it’ Leo season bby! And that incoming energy has left me pondering on and curiously exploring the concept of self-worth.

Which is why in August, I want to use these newsletters as a way to dive into the topic deeper and give you musing, tips and tricks to curiously explore and maybe even challenge the things that your mind has gotten used to associating your worth with.

This is actually an AMAZING place to start, let’s reflect:

When do you feel most “worthy” in your life? Or what is happening in life when you feel fully worthy of the people, things or experiences you are dreaming about?

Ponder on it.

Did ya ponder?

Did ya?

Ok good!

If you’re anything like most of us, maybe your answer sounds like:

  • When I just hit a major milestone in my business or career 💰️

  • When everything’s just flowing and going right 🌊

  • When my crush is texting me back 🥰

  • When I’m fully in my routine & feeling hot 🔥

  • When I’m feeling productive & checking off all my to-dos ✏️

  • When I’m with family & friends and everyones healthy & happy 👪️ ❤️

ALL amazing things that we love. But simultaneously, all of the above examples (and maybe even your own example) are based on external things going “right” in order to feel worthy internally

Now, let me ask you - do you still feel worthy of the people, things and experiences you’re dreaming about when everything externally is going wrong or not to plan?

Or what makes you feel worthy regardless of any external feedback?

If that feels hard to answer, don’t worry. Our minds have been trained to associate our worth (as a full human being) with how “well” our life is going at any given moment.

Even the concept of “stepping into self-worth” in the personal development space can be molded and twisted into a practice we do in order to receive that external result, rather than to just recognize ourselves as and feel worthy - full stop, regardless of external results .

Which can mean if our life isn’t going well or to plan, we don’t feel worthy.

When it is, we feel worthy.

But what does “well” mean anyway? When we practice this work we can see sometimes external circumstances are totally out of our control, but we use them to judge ourselves anyway. And other times, something that we define as “bad” actually ends up being the best thing that could have happened in the long run.

I want to bring a more Buddhist perspective to this notion, which is anything that you’re experiencing externally is coming from your internal perception.

This means that anything external you attach your worth to, is just that - an attachment of the mind, keeping you from experiencing genuine self-worth.

My favorite quote on this by Deepak Chopra goes like this:

Attachment is based on fear and insecurity and the need for security is based on not knowing the true Self. The source of wealth, of abundance or of anything in the physical world is the Self. Everything else is a symbol: cars, houses, bank notes, clothes, airplanes. Symbols are transitory; they come and go. Chasing the symbols is like settling for the map instead of the territory. It creates anxiety; it ends up making you feel hollow and empty inside, because you exchange your Self for the symbols of your Self.

Deep concept - I like to put it like this:

YOU are the one making meaning of yourself and your life. YOU are the one that has created every success you’ve experienced so far and the unique energy, gifts, strengths and characteristics YOU bring to the world don’t just evaporate into thin air because something in the external world didn’t go to plan - because (again) they're coming from YOU!

(And from a brain perspective, they’ve literally been ingrained into your being.)

Sure, our mood and emotions can cloud our connection to that. Sure, we’ll over-exert ourselves chasing the external result, get caught up in attachment and need time to rest. Sure, implementing this into your brain is a process of trial and error where sometimes you won’t necessarily always feel worthy.

But guess what? Regardless of how you feel, you still are

It’s like - imagine you are the sun. Burning bright, shining all your rays, warming everything that comes near ya. An asteroid rotates into your orbit - does that make you more or less of the sun? An asteroid rotates out of your orbit - does that make you more or less of the sun? Neither of course! Because YOU’RE the freaking sun bby! That brightness and warmth is coming from YOU, and it keeps burning regardless of what comes and leaves ☀️

Remember that. Surrender the attachment to external circumstances and come back to your genuine self-worth because that spark is coming from you. (Always has, always will.)

More tips on how to practice below.

✏️ WAYS TO PRACTICE: Genuine Self-Worth

Like mentioned above, when we start the practice of connecting to our self-worth, many of us come from a life-time of associating our worth with external circumstances.

Which means the easiest way to come back to our genuine self-worth would just be to accept it — that you’re worthy right now, regardless of your mood, or accomplishments or anything else your measuring yourself by.

But alas, we’re human 🙃 We’ve creating habits in our mind that makes this hard, so we need to practice coming back to genuine self-worth through the experiences life brings to take us out of it.

Here are some things you can do:

1 / Do The Things That Make You Feel Worthy, Just for Fun.

“Just for fun???” she says as a Double Capricorn whose natural tendency is to think, “How can I be perfect at this?” with nearly everything she’s ever done. (It’s me, I’m she.) 😂

Yes, just for fun. The first step here is to get clear on what makes you feel worthy or light up internally just through the sole process of doing it. These can be characteristics like creativity, humor, joy, my bubbly personality, sharing my perspective, my ability to yap to a wall, etc. OR they can be activities like writing, connecting people together, running, etc.

Many of us do activities like this every day, with the external result looming in our minds. I’m being creative in order to X,Y,Z. I’m sharing my personality and perspective in order to X,Y,Z. I’m writing in order to X,Y,Z, or I’m running with X,Y,Z as my goal.

Can you infuse a bit of playful fun into it? Can you do it just because? Can you take a new route or try it in a new way or share your gifts with no purpose except to enjoy being you?

This may take a few times to crack into the playfulness, but keep at it! Because once you do, you’re zoomin’.

2 / Notice Which of Your (Favorite) Characteristics Go Away Without External Results or Validation.

Do you love being creative but stop because no one’s acknowledged it? Do you have the most fun when you bring your confident, bubbly personality out but hide it when you feel that your self-worth has taken a hit? Are you kinder and more giving to people when things are going right vs. when they’re going wrong?

Notice how you stop sharing parts of yourself that bring you joy as a reaction to the external world. And begin to practice showing up despite what’s happening externally in the present moment.

Give yourself grace as you practice this to find the perfect balance for you!

Remember, you are the sun. Don’t stop shining.

3 / Commit to Practicing The Law of Detachment:

Mentioned above by Deepak Chopra. Here are his three steps to it:

  1. Today I will commit myself to detachment. I will allow myself and those around me the freedom to be as they are. I will not rigidly impose my idea of how things should be. I will not force solutions on problems, thereby creating new problems. I will participate in everything with detached involvement.

  2. Today I will factor in uncertainty as an essential ingredient of my experience. In my willingness to accept uncertainty, solutions will spontaneously emerge out of the problem, out of the confusion, disorder, and chaos. The more uncertain things seem to be, the more secure I will feel, because uncertainty is my path to freedom. Through the wisdom of uncertainty, I will find my security.

  3. I will step into the field of all possibilities and anticipate the excitement that can occur when I remain open to an infinity of choices. When I step into the field of all possibilities, I will experience all the fun, adventure, magic, and mystery of life.
