Message #55: The Gap You're Feeling Isn't About Possibility. It's About Identity.*
Hi love,
When you start to really let yourself have a big vision, it can feel unbelievably overwhelming.
Not because the vision is wrong. But because the gap between where you are and who you want to become can feel so massive that your brain starts scrambling to fill in the blanks using only what it currently knows.
And that's an impossible task.
That's where the lack mindset creeps in, where the mental noise shows up and where all of the confusion, anxiety, self-doubt, and self-sabotage all start to build.
If it helps, I want you to know something: that's exactly how your brain is designed to work.
Your brain is constantly using what it already knows to predict what comes next. So when your vision stretches far beyond what you've experienced before, of course it can feel too big to fathom.
But here's what I really want you to see:
That gap you're feeling isn't a gap in practical possibility.
It's a gap in identity.
Your current sense of self is quite literally wired into your brain β fired and wired over years of repetition.
So when you try to picture this bigger, more expansive version of your life, you're attempting to perceive it through an identity that hasn't caught up yet.
Which is exactly why it can feel unimaginable.
Not because it isn't possible, but because you haven't yet embodied the version of you for whom that life feels normal.
And that old identity doesn't just quietly step aside.
It calls you back through old fears, old patterns, imposter syndrome, self-doubt, and the urge to grip even tighter to the outcome β even while you're actively taking action toward the very thing you want.
And this is where so many of us get stuck.
It's also one of the biggest patterns I work on with my clients: closing the gap between the life they intellectually know is possible and the version of themselves who actually feels safe, worthy, and ready to live it.
Because most of the time, the problem isn't that they don't know what they want or aren't capable of creating it.
It's that an older identity is still trying to create a completely new life.
We start chasing the vision because we believe that once we have it, we'll finally feel the way we want to feel.
Successful enough.
Chosen enough.
Secure enough.
Worthy enough.
So the vision quietly becomes responsible for our sense of self-worth.
And the more we need it to prove something about who we are, the more we cling to it.
But creating the life you want isn't about chasing an external outcome hard enough until it finally gives you permission to feel differently about yourself.
It's about becoming the version of yourself for whom that life no longer feels so far away.
The version of you for whom it feels normal in your mind, normal in your body and normal in your emotional world.
It becomes reflected in the decisions you make, the standards you hold, the way you move through uncertainty, the opportunities you allow yourself to receive, and β most importantly β the way you feel about yourself before the external evidence arrives.
Because that's embodiment.
You're no longer asking the vision to change how you feel about yourself.
You're changing how you see, feel, and relate to yourself β and allowing your external life to begin reflecting that identity back to you
π Question to reflect on this week:
What are you currently asking your vision to prove about you β and who would you become if you no longer needed the outcome to prove it?
