Message #50: The Meditation Benefit No One Talks About

Hi love,

Meditation has an image problem.

People know it's "good for you." They know there are benefits. But so many still say some version of, "I just don't see myself as someone who can do it consistently."

And honestly, I think that's because meditation, especially in the Western world, is rarely spoken about accurately. We talk about the calm. We talk about the stress relief. But we rarely talk about how it actually applies to modern life, to your career, your relationships, your day-to-day decisions.

So today I want to share one piece of it that I think gets completely overlooked.

Meditation, done consistently, teaches you to separate your energy from everyone else's.

Before I had a real practice, I only had glimpses of the real me. And those glimpses only showed up when life was going well externally. The moment things got hard, the moment shit hit the fan, that version of me disappeared. I genuinely thought that was just "good mood me," a nice bonus state, not something I actually had access to on demand.

What I didn't understand yet was this:

The reason I couldn't access that version of myself under pressure wasn't because she wasn't there. It's because I hadn't trained my mind to sit with the mental and emotional noise long enough to connect with her intentionally.

That's what a consistent practice actually builds.

Not just calm. Access.

Once you can meet that grounded version of yourself on the cushion, you start to recognize her off the cushion too. And that's when something really powerful happens:

You start to feel the difference between your energy and everyone else's.

You start to notice how someone else's mood, opinion, or reaction has been quietly shaping choices you thought were entirely your own.

And little by little, instead of reacting to everything external, you keep coming back home to yourself. You start showing up as you, and building your life from there.

Now imagine that applied everywhere.

Your dating life.
Your career.
Your relationships.
Every decision you make for yourself.

All shaped by staying connected to who you actually are and what you actually want, regardless of what's happening around you.

That's the part of meditation most people never get told about. It's not just a practice for peace. It's a practice for authorship, over your own energy, your own choices, your own life.

πŸ’ Question to reflect on this week:

Where in your life have you been absorbing someone else's energy as your own, and what would it look like to come back to yourself in that moment instead?
