Message #54: Why uncertainty can feel so terrifying (and why that’s not a bad thing)
Hi love,
I truly believe one of the most powerful things you can do to intentionally transform your life is learn to let go of “knowing”.
Uncertainty has a reputation.
So many spiritual teachers describe it as feeling like death. (And honestly, that's pretty accurate 😂)
And often, it's not your literal survival that's threatened in the present moment.
It's your ego. The identity built on already having the answers and the way the brain tends to project the fears and limiting beliefs of the past onto the future.
But from a practical standpoint, here's what's actually happening: your brain is wired for safety.
It wants the familiar. It wants the known. So the moment you step toward something new, your nervous system pulls hard toward the norm.
Which means creating something new for yourself requires a real capacity, the capacity to meet unfamiliar moments with gentle, neutral curiosity, instead of immediately reaching for what you think you already know.
Because what you "know" is often just the past, projected onto a present moment that's actually brand new.
I see this show up in two ways with the people I work with.
The first is with ambitious, high-achieving visionaries who've built real success through knowing. When something inside starts calling them toward a different chapter, a new direction, a life that no longer fits the way it used to, it can feel almost unbearable to become a beginner again. To trade certainty for the unknown, even when everything in them senses it's time.
The second is subtler. It's fighting to be right about things we don't even want to be right about.
Fighting for our limitations.
Fighting for the belief that it'll never change.
Fighting for the idea that nothing can shift.
When you fight for those beliefs, you're actually wiring your brain to keep proving them true, anchoring yourself to a certainty you never actually wanted in the first place.
Here's the reframe I want to offer you:
When we show up to it intentionally and aligned, the unknown isn’t a threat. It’s a space of pure potential, pure creativity, and where every moment is a fresh new moment.
And this is why so much of the work I do with my clients is about learning to intentionally step into the unknown while staying deeply grounded and connected to themselves.
Because you don't always know how much of "that's impossible," "that could never be me," or *that's just the way things are" is actually coming from subconscious rules around comfort and safety — rather than what's truly possible for you.
And sometimes, stepping into your next chapter requires releasing parts of the version of you that got you here.
The need to control.
The overthinking.
The perfectionism.
The constant need to “know”.
Which can sound scary, until you realize you're often being asked to let go of the very things you didn't want to carry anymore anyway.
And on the other side of that release is space! For more of the creativity, abundance, excitement and life you’ve quietly known you wanted all along.
And if that sounds impossible, I get it. I also came from a background where I needed to "know" everything.
It's one of the reasons this work has become such a foundational part of what I teach.
Because what I've found — both in my own life and in the people I work with — is that the more we release that grip, the more life begins to open up. Not just in what shows up externally, the opportunities you start noticing because you're finally seeing with fresh eyes, but internally too.
You get to actually surrender to the process instead of white-knuckling your way through it.
💭 Question to reflect on this week:
Where have you been gripping onto "knowing" instead of letting yourself step into the unknown, and what might become possible if you let that certainty go?
