DIVING INTO: YOUR NEW LIFE WILL COST YOU YOUR OLD ONE
Hi love,
You’ve probably heard the saying, “Your new life will cost you your old one.”
And as cliché as it might sound, it’s true.
Every next level of your life asks for a new version of you — not because who you’ve been was wrong, but because growth requires release.
We love to talk about expansion, vision, and becoming the next-level version of ourselves. But we rarely talk about the other part — what you have to let go of to get there.
Because stepping into your next level isn’t just about what you gain — it’s about what you stop carrying.
THE INVISIBLE WEIGHT OF WHO YOU’VE BEEN
In coaching, I see this moment all the time. A client outlines their next big move — a promotion, a dream relationship, a career jump, a lifestyle rebrand, a shift in their aligned direction. They’re excited, clear, ready.
And then… it starts to get sticky.
They’re taking new steps, but still holding on to the habits, expectations, and coping mechanisms of their old identity.
It’s completely normal — and deeply human. Our brains are wired for familiarity, even when familiarity no longer serves us.
But when you keep trying to build your next chapter from the inner world (perspectives, beliefs, behaviors, habits, fears, inner narratives) of your last one, expansion starts to feel heavy.
Without this awareness, it usually just feels overwhelming. All the coping mechanisms are used to expand - and usually, we end up sacrificing things we care about (our wellbeing, our relationships, the things that bring us joy, our truth) to make up that gap.
That’s usually the sign that something within you wants to be released so you can move on to your “next level” with more grounding, self-connection and ease.
This is your reminder that: releasing is not rejection.
You can honor the versions of yourself that helped you survive, and still choose to grow beyond them.
Letting go doesn’t mean loss — it means renewal. It’s what happens when love and honesty finally meet.
So if things feel like they’re falling away right now, trust that it’s not punishment. It’s preparation.
You’re not losing yourself — you’re meeting a truer version of you.
✏️ QUESTION FOR REFLECTION + GUIDING TIP: YOUR NEW LIFE WILL COST YOU YOUR OLD ONE
Question for Reflection:
What part of me am I ready to thank, release, and lovingly outgrow?
Guiding Tip:
When you feel resistance, breathe into it and repeat: “I release what no longer expands me.”
Let this become your quiet reminder that growth doesn’t come from holding tighter — it comes from letting go with grace.
With love,
Dominique
